The Washington Huskies and the Indiana Hoosiers face off on Thursday in Madison Square Garden in college basketball action.
The Washington Huskies are off to a 2-1 start and while it isn’t the start they are looking for they have a brutal ahead of them this season and cant afford to look back. UW has wins over Seattle and Eastern Washington but they were upset by UC Irvine in their second game. C.J. Wilcox is Washington’s leading scorer averaging 20.3 points and 6.3 rebounds. Nigel Williams Gross is averaging 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.0 steals, Andrew Andrews is averaging 13.7 points and 4.0 rebounds, Perris Blackwell is averaging 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds, and Darin Johnson is averaging 11.3 points. Washington is averaging 84 points per game and they are shooting 41.1 percent from the floor, 24.5 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 78.8 percent from the free throw line while defensively their opponents score 81.3 points and shoot 49.2 percent. Washington’s defense is clearly a big liability for them this year.

The Indiana Hoosiers have lost the bulk of the talent that has kept them ear the top of the college basketball world in recent years but Tom Crean’s team has started the season with four wins. Outside of a one point win in their second game against LIU Brooklyn IU has smashed their opponents. Kevin Yogi Ferrell is averaging 19.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game to lead the Hoosiers. Noah Vonieh is averaging 14.8 points and 12.5 rebounds, Will Sheehey is 11 points and 4.8 rebounds, and Troy Williams is averaging 10 points and 5.5 rebounds. Indiana is averaging 92 points shooting 47.4 percent from the floor, 30.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 70.4 percent from the free throw line. Indiana’s overall schedule doesn’t look as tough as it has been recently.
Washington is 12-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 1-3-1 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 0-5 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread. Indiana is 5-2 against the spread following a game which they covered the spread, 7-19-2 against the spread in their last 28 neutral site games, and 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games against a team with a winning record.
This looks to be too big of a number as the Hoosiers just aren’t the same team we have seen recently and I am going to take the generous number with the Huskies.
