The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers and Nebraska Cornhuskers square off in the consolation bracket of the Charleston Classic.
Alabama-Birmingham was bumped to the consolation round of the Charleston Classic via 97-94 double overtime defeat at the hands of New Mexico. The Blazers will be thinking about this one for awhile as they had the lead late in regulation and the first overtime. This might have looked like a shootout but the boxscore said both teams struggled to find the shooting touch with the Lobos hitting at 34% and the Blazers with 37.5% accuracy. The stats were relatively even with UAB logging 17 giveaways which led to ten more shots for UNM who converted just enough. Chad Frazier poured in a game high 34 points but also committed eight turnovers with Rod Rucker added 18 points and hauled in 20 rebounds while Robert Williams tossed in 15 points with nine pulls.

Nebraska's offense was steller but their defense was not in a 96-90 loss to Massachusets. The Minutemen sank half their attempts while the Cornhuskers finished with 43% marksmanship which was the biggest difference. Nebraska sank a few more threes and UMass countered with a few more foul shots with the Huskers falling behind early in the second half and never being able to climb back. Terran Petteway led all scorers with 28 points but he fouled out after 29 minutes and he was one player the offense needed on the floor. The trio of Tai Webster, David Rivers and Leslee Smith each scored 12 points with the latter grabbing ten boards while Shavon Shields chipped in with ten points and six yanks.
My first thought was take Alabama-Birmingham but I am hesitant because I don't know if this team can shake off such a disappointing loss. However with no line out I have some time to think about it...
