Ball State hosts undefeated interstate rival Butler Saturday in Muncie, Indiana.

The Bulldogs are off to a solid start with quality wins in their last two outings against Princeton and Vanderbilt, the latter an 85-77 overtime win on Tuesday. Senior 6-6 F Khyle Marshall led Butler down the stretch, scoring the bulk of his career-high 26 points in the last seven minutes of the game and nine of the Bulldogs’ 16 points in OT. Marshall shot 73 percent from the field and added 5 rebounds. Sophomore 6-6 G Kellen Dunham added 16 points on 40 percent shooting and 6-9 junior F Kameron Woods had 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. As a team, Butler shot 46 percent from the field, 36 percent from distance and made 18 of 31 from the line.

The Cardinals come in 2-1 and off consecutive victories, the latest an 87-83 win over Southeast Missouri State. Senior 6-4 F Chris Bond led Ball State with 20 points on 54 percent shooting and made 8 of 10 from the line.  Freshman G Zavier Turner had 19 points, 5 assists and hit 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and senior G Jesse Berry added 19 points and made 6 of 8 from the line. As a team, the Cardinals shot 44 percent from the floor, 39 percent from distance and made 24 of 34 from the free throw line. On the year thus far, Turner leads the team in scoring at 17.7 ppg and three point percentage at 71, while 6-9 senior C Majok Majok leads in rebounds with an average of 10.3 per contest.

Butler is 6.5 point favorite in this one and it looks to be a high-scoring affair with Ball State averaging 77.7 ppg and Butler 81.3. The Bulldogs have better weapons as well as quality wins, though, so they get the nod here.
