The 0-3 Tulsa Golden Hurricane visit the CentryLink Center in Omaha for a non-conference duel witht the 23rd ranked Creighton Blue Jays.

Tulsa is winless on the year and most recently fell at the hands of #14 Wichita State.  The Golden Hurricane played quite well for one half as they traded baskets with the Shockers and found themselves tied at the half.  Unfortunately, the defensive intensity didn’t keep up and Wichita State exploded for a 46-23 run in the 2nd half that sealed the easy win.  Tulsa was led in scoring by Pat Swilling Jr.’s 12 points off the bench.  No other Tulsa player scored in double figures and as a team, the Golden Hurricane shot it 39% for the game.  Adding to their problems, the Golden Hurricane were dominated on the boards and racked up 20 personal fouls that led to Wichita State hitting 80% from the line.

Dave Weaver-USA TODAY Sports

Creighton sits at 3-0 and have started off the season as many folks anticipated they would.  The Blue Jays faced their first challenge this past week as St. Joe’s battled hard before the Blue Jays closed them out late 83-79.  After falling behind by 5 at the half, the Blue Jays asserted themselves offensively in the 2nd half and were boosted by the contribution of bench player Ethan Wraggs.  Wraggs finished with 21 points to lead all scorers and shot it 7-11 from the floor.  Doug McDermott chipped in his usual 20 points and the Blue Jays finished the game shooting over 50% from the field and from behind the arc.  The Blue Jays face a tough matchup against Arizona State after their battle with Tulsa tomorrow.

Some trends to consider -- Tulsa is 5-0-1 against the spread in their past 6 Saturday games and Creighton is 5-0 against the spread in their past 5 games at home.

Tulsa has the unfortunate task of having to face two of the toughest mid major teams in the nation in back to back contests. Creighton is too sound and having the best scorer in the nation on your roster only helps.  Look for Doug McDermott and company to have this one in hand by halftime as the Blue Jays move to 4-0 with the cover at home.

Creighton -19
