Long Beach State played their best game of the young season but it was still not enough in a 73-67 defeat to Virginia Commonwealth in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The 49ers held the lead in the second half but couldn't stop the Rams offense who sank shots at a 46% pace while LBS made half their attempts in a back and forth fast tempo contest that featured eight lead changes and nine ties. At the final buzzer VCU was 8-11 fom the line and the 49ers were 4-10 and left points on the floor. Branford Jones led Long Beach State with 19 points with Mike Caffey tossing in 15 points and grabbing five boards in 40 minutes while AJ Spencer connected for 14 points with Dan Jennings contributed 12 and seven rebounds.
These teams have already faced each other with Kansas State winning by 13 but watching these two play and I don't like my choices. Long Beach State plus the points is the way I'm leaning but thes guys were awful until they faced VCU so who knows...
