The #13 UConn Huskies look to stay unblemished when they host the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds Tuesday.
The Huskies are off to their best start in three years at 6-0 and come in off a thrilling 59-58 win over Indiana Friday in the 2K Sports Classic title game. UConn was led by a brilliant 27-point performance by 6-1 senior G Shabazz Napier, who iced the game in the closing minutes with a driving lay-up. Napier shot 71 percent from the field, hit 4 of 6 from beyond the arc and made 3 of 7 from the line. The Huskies shot just 39 percent for the game, but stifled on defense holding the Hoosiers to 40 percent from the floor. On the season, Napier leads UConn in scoring at 16.8 ppg, rebounds at 7.8 per game and assists at 6 per contest. Defense has played a major role thus far for the Huskies as they’ve held opponents to 63.7 points per game and 36 percent from the field.

Led by first-year coach G.G. Smith, son of Texas Tech coach Tubby Smith, Loyola also comes in undefeated at a record of 4-0 and several solid wins to its credit, including a 93-89 OT win over Cornell. In their last outing, the Greyhounds edged UMBC 89-83 in OT behind a 34-point, 10 rebound performance by 6-3 senior G Dylon Cormier, who shot 54 percent from the field and made 9 of 13 from the free throw line. Cormier leads Loyola in scoring at 29.8 ppg and rebounds at 8 per contest. Sophomore 6-7 G Jared Jones averages 14 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
