The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Arkansas Razorbacks face off on Tuesday afternoon in Maui in college basketball action.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers fought the good fight on Monday afternoon against Syracuse but they came up just short taking their first loss of the year. Several times Minnesota closed the gap but they weren’t able to get to lead eventually losing by eight. Andre Hollins is leading Minnesota averaging 18 points and 4.2 rebounds with 20 assists and nine steals thus far this season. Austin Hollins is averaging 12.8 points and 7.0 rebounds, Joey King is averaging 10 points, and DeAndre Mathieu is averaging 9.2 points and 5.3 assists per game. Minnesota is shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, 35.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and they are averaging 77.8 points per game while they are allowing 63.8 points per game and their opponents shoot 39.5 percent. Minnesota has twice as many steals as their opponents and they average over six more rebounds per game.

The Arkansas Razorbacks went toe to toe with Cal for 40 minutes but the end result was their first loss of the season. Arkansas didn’t shoot well enough from the floor or the free throw line against the Bears and those are both areas they will need to improve in a hurry. Michael Qualls is averaging 17.5 point, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game to lead the Hogs. Alandise Harris is averaging 15.8 points and five rebounds, Anthlon Bell is averaging 13.3 points, Bobby Portis is averaging 8.3 points. Arkansas is averaging 85.2 points and they are shooting 45.8 percent from the floor, 40 percent from behind the three-point arc, and 72.7 percent from the free throw line while defensively they allow 72.8 points and their opponents shoot 42.9 percent. Arkansas averages two rebounds less per game than their opponents.
Minnesota is 2-5-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, 1-4 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, and 3-8-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Arkansas is 6-0 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, 3-0-1 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 7-1 against the spread following a loss.
The line is set at 4.5 in favor of the Gophers and I am willing to lay it as Minnesota is just the better team right now.
