The UCLA Bruins and the Nevada Wolfpack face off on Thursday in Las Vegas in college basketball action.
The UCLA Bruins are off to a 5-0 start to the season and they are ranked 19th in the nation. Steve Alford is in his fist year as Head Coach at UCLA and his Bruins have been making a statement. Jordan Adams is leading UCLA averaging 22.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 steals per game. Zach LaVine is averaging 12 .2 points, Norman Powell is averaging 12.6 points and 3.4 rebounds, Tony Parker is averaging 9.4 points and 7.2 rebounds, and David Wear is averaging 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds. UCLA is averaging 87.2 points and they are shooting 53.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.4 points and their opponents are shooting 35 percent. UCLA still has plenty of big games left before they start their Pac-12 schedule including a matchup against Duke in three weeks.

The Nevada Wolfpack are 3-3 for the season and have lost two of their last three games. Nevada has played the 183rd ranked schedule in the nation and it is projected to e the 98th ranked by season’s end. Deonte Burton leads the Wolfpack averaging 24.8 points and 2.0 steals per game. Michael Perez is averaging 11 points and 3.5 rebounds, Cole Huff is averaging 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Jerry Evans Jr. is averaging 10 points and 6.2 rebounds. Nevada is averaging 72.8 points per game they are shooting 44.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 74.3 points and their opponents shoot 47.5 percent. If Nevada can pull the upset here it can kick start their season.
UCLA is 5-2 against the spread following a win, 5-13 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread, and 7-21 against the spread in their last 28 neutral site games. Nevada is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games, 2-5 against the spread following a loss, and 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 neutral site games.
UCLA is just the far better team here and with Alford’s ego they are just taking it to their opponents and I look for them to do the same here.
