The #23 Iowa Hawkeyes take the hardwood in the Battle 4 Atlantis to face the Texas El Paso Miners.
Iowa had been steam rolling the opposition on the way to an impressive 5-0 start but victory number six proved to be a challenge. The Hawkeyes were up to the challenge to go to 6-0 with a 77-74 overtime decision versus Xavier in the Battle 4 Atlantis. Double digit wins seemed to be the norm but the Hawkeyes needed to rally from a seven point first half deficit to force the extra session. Defense was the key with their own 35% shooting being competitive with the Musketeers limited to 39% and giving the ball away 16 times. Roy-Devyn Marble saved the day as he poured in 30 points while the trio of Aaron White, Zach McCabe and Gabriel Olaseni combined for 31 points.

Texas El Paso has been labeled as one of the teams to beat in the CUSA and I don't know if that's an accurate assessment yet. The Miners only two defeats have come against New Mexico State which is no shame but UTEP needs some wins over some bigger names to become more of a known. The Miners took a step in that direction with a 78-70 victory over Tennessee in the opener of the Battle 4 Atlantis as they shot a lights out 58% from the floor while holding the Volunteers to 35% which was obviously the difference. McKenzie Moore led four doble digit scorers with 19 points with John Bohannon next in line with 16 points followed by Julian Washburn and Justin Crosgile who added 12 points apiece.
My first instinct was to back Iowa but a tough overtime tussle combined with giving points to what is predicted to be a decent Miners squad has me going the other way...
