The Providence Friars and the Fairfield Stags face off on Friday in college basketball action.
The Providence Friars are coming off of their first loss of the season, a heart breaker against Maryland they had a chance to win. Providence has a roster loaded with players who can shoot and core and Ed Cooley is hoping he has a team that can go to the NCAA Tournament. Bryce Cotton leads the Friars averaging 17.7 points and 5.0 assists per game. LaDontae Henton is averaging 13.9 points and 8.1 rebounds, Kadeem Betts is averaging 13.6 points and 7.3 rebounds, and Tyler Harris is averaging 12.9 points and 5.1 rebounds. Providence is averaging 72.6 points and they are shooting 41.1 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 60.4 points and their opponents are shooting 40.6 percent from the floor. Up next for Providence is Kentucky.

The Fairfield Stags have played a tough schedule but they have lost their last five games in a row. Playing the MAAC the season could be over before it even really gets started for the Stags. Marcus Gilbert is averaging 11.3 points and 4.5 rebounds and he is Fairfield’s top scorer. Maurice Barrow is averaging 8.0 points and 4.3 rebounds, Amadou Sidbe is averaging 6.7 points and 6.0 rebounds, and K.J. Rose is averaging 5.8 points. Fairfield is averaging 54.2 points per game and they are shooting 37.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.8 points and their opponents are shooting 38 percent. Fairfield simply doesn’t have enough firepower to play against team with any kind of offense.
Providence is 5-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, 4-0 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 3-8 against the spread against the MAAC. Fairfield is 9-19-1 against the spread following a loss, 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 games, and 1-6 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the point spread.
This is a big number but look for the Friars to win by 20 or more and cover.
