The Rhode Island Rams eye their fourth straight victory when they meet the George Mason Patriots Saturday.
Rhode Island comes in with a record of 6-2 and winners of their last three, including a 76-71 victory over McNees State in their last outing Nov. 23. The Rams squandered a 21 point lead late, letting the Cowboys close to within three points before icing the game with clutch free throw shooting. Rhode Island shot 44 percent from the field, 43 percent from downtown and connected on 22 of 24 from the foul line, led by senior G Xavier Munford, who scored 26 points on 60 percent shooting and connected on 6 of 10 from beyond the arc. Junior 6-10 F Gilvydas Biruta added 17 points and 8 boards on 71 percent from the floor and made 6 of 6 from the foul line. The Rams average 72.5 ppg on 43 percent shooting and Munford leads the team in scoring with 15.1 per contest.

George Mason has a record of 4-2 and looks to snap a two-game skid with a win here. The Patriots dropped their last one to Princeton Tuesday 71-66, coming up short on a late rally after a 25-11 run that tied the game at 66 with just over a minute left. George Mason shot 53 percent from the field, 27 percent from beyond the arc and connected on 17 of 25 from the free throw line. Senior G Sherrod Wright scored a game-high 27 points on 62 percent shooting and added 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Senior G Byron Allen had 11 points and 6 assists on 50 percent from the field. The Patriots average 67.3 ppg on 45 percent from the field and Wright leads the team in scoring with 17 ppg on 48 percent from the floor and 40 percent from distance.
George Mason is currently an 8-point home favorite in this one and neither team has really set itself apart from the other. In their 4 wins, the Patriots haven’t really beat up on anyone except subdivision St. Francis, while, besides a 20-point win over Maine, Rhode Island hasn’t either. The Rams are scoring at a higher clip, though, so the points are the play.
