The Memphis Tigers and the Oklahoma State Cowboys face off on Sunday in Orlando in the Championship game of the Old Spice Classic college basketball tournament.
The Memphis Tigers are the 19th ranked team in the country and they enter this game with just one loss but that loss was to the same team they face in this one, Oklahoma State. The Tigers were no match for the Cowboys losing by 21 in the first meeting but Josh Pastner hopes his team learned from that experience. Joe Jackson leads Memphis averaging 14.8 points and 2.2 steals per game. Austin Nichols is averaging 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds, Michael Dixon is averaging 11.2 points, and Shaq Goodwin is averaging 10.8 points and 5.8 rebounds. Memphis is averaging 87.2 points and they are shooting 48.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.6 points and their opponents are shooting 43.5 percent. Memphis was never in the game against the OSU the first time around and they will need to keep it much closer here.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys enter this game ranked fifth in the nation but so far they have looked as good as any team in the nation. OSU has been lights out on offense and defense and they are coming off of a win where they held off an upset minded Butler team. Marcus Smart leads the Cowboys averaging 21.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. Markel Brown is averaging 17.9 points, Le’Bryan Nash is averaging 13.1 points and 6.4 rebounds, Phil Forte is averaging 12.9 points, and Brian Williams is averaging 10.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals. Oklahoma State is averaging 95.3 points and they are shooting 51.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.6 points and their opponents shoot 38.5 percent. Oklahoma State are thinking big things for this season.
Memphis is 4-1 against the spread in their last five neutral site games, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games, and 1-4 against the spread against the Big 12. Oklahoma State is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 5-15 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five neutral site games.
As a fan Jackson is one of my favorite players but neither he no the Tigers showed up for their first game against the Cowboys and I just don’t see enough changing over the past few weeks to make this one different enough that they get the cover.
