The 12th-ranked Wichita State Shockers go for their 8th consecutive win when they take on the St. Louis Billikens at Chaifetz Arena Sunday.
The Shockers are undefeated and coming in off a solid 75-62 win over BYU last Tuesday, in which neither team had a particularly good day shooting the rock, but Wichita State toughed it out and made more clutch free throws down the stretch than did the Cougars. The Shockers hit 21 of 25 from the line, while BYU connected on 21 of 30. Sophomore G Ron Baker had a game-high 23 points on 31 percent shooting, made 11 of 11 from the free throw line and hit just 2 of 11 from beyond the arc and sophomore G Fred VanVleet added 12 points on 50 percent shooting and made 2 of 4 from distance. Wichita State shot 35 percent from the field for the game and just 21 percent from downtown. Through 7 games, the Shockers are averaging 80.7 ppg on 46 percent from the field and Baker leads the team in scoring with 15.3 ppg on 51 percent from the floor and 40 percent from distance.

St. Louis comes in with a record of 6-1 and off a 62-52 victory over Old Dominion Wednesday where they outshot the Monarchs from the field 42 percent to 34 percent. The Billikens also shot 31 percent from beyond the arc and connected on 10 of 17 from the line. Senior F Dwayne Evans had a game-high 21 points on 61 percent shooting and made 5 of 9 from the free throw line. St. Louis is averaging 72.9 ppg on 44 percent from the floor and Evans leads the team in scoring with 14.4 ppg on 50 percent from the field.
The line in this one is currently at -2.5 for St. Louis and while the Billikens only loss was by 6 points to Wisconsin, they haven’t beaten anyone to speak of in their 6 wins. Wichita State, meanwhile, only has the one impressive win over BYU, but they still appear to be the real deal. The Shockers and the points are the play.
