The Cal Golden Bears play host to the UC Irvine Anteaters in late night college basketball.
UC Irvine isn't a household name in the world of college basketball but they haven't been all that bad and are exciting to watch with their ability to put the ball in the basket. The scoring continued with the defense playing their best in a 79-53 rout of Sacramento State. A 48-21 second half burst broke open a tight affair behind nearly 54% marksmanship that over came 16 giveaways. The defense held the Hornets to 33% from the field which led directly to nine more makes from the floor. Chris McNealy led the Anteaters with 15 points and six pulls with Luke Nelson tossing in 14 followed by a 12 point, six assist effort from Alex Young.

Cal jumped out of the gate at 5-0 but the last two games haven't been good with back to back defeats leaving the team staring at a defense that allowed 82 points in each. An 82-64 loss to Dayton saw the normally high scoring attack held in check which was bad news with the Flyers hitting at over 48% from the floor. The Golden Bears struggled to find the range with 40% accuracy including a 1-7 mark from beyond the arc. Justin Cobb was the Golden Bears best offensive option with a game high of 31 points on 12-20 shooting before fouling out in 36 minutes. David Kravish added 12 points, 14 rebounds and blocked five shots followed by Jordan Mathews and his eight points.
I don't think there is night and day difference in this match up although Cal at home looks like a winner. Hopefully the spread is big enough and the Anteaters score...
