The Belmont Bruins visit the Murphy Center to face the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders.
I watched Belmont upset North Carolina and thought this was the same old Belmont that flies under the radar but watching them fall apart late in an 81-68 home loss to Virginia Commonwealth has me rethinking. The Rams had been struggling a bit but 49% marksmanship helped to set things right. The Bruins connected at 44.6% and sank eleven bombs but were done in by 19 giveaways and a 16-7 deficit at the stripe. All five starters reached double figures in scoring with Blake Jenkins and JJ Mann tossing in 14 points each with Drew Windler adding 13 points and nine boards while Caleb Chowbay and Evan Bradds added 12 and ten points.

Middle Tennessee State is loaded once again and looks to make a return trip to the Big Dance which will be more difficult after leaving the Sun Belt for the CUSA. MTSU has fashioned a 6-1 record behind plenty of scoring although the defense stepped up in a 65-55 victory over former Sun Belt foe South Alabama. A 39-21 second half spurt erased a nine point hole at the break with 39% shooting out distancing the Jaguars 27% while four more makes from the field and six more free throws provided the final margin. Kerry Hammonds and Neiko Hunter paced the attack with 14 points each and a combined 15 rebounds while Tweedy Knight tossed in 12 points and snared seven boards followed by a ten effort by Jacquez Rozier.
Belmont misses some of their players from a season ago and Middle Tennessee State has the same roster so they should win this. I'm not really sold on the Bruins to be honest so I doubt if I touch this...
