The Rutgers Scarlet Knights travel to George Washington to play the Colonials on Wednesday night.
Rutgers dropped to 4-4 on the year after losing to Fairleigh Dickinson 73-72 last week in an NIT Season Tip-Off consolation game. This was just the second time in 11 meetings that Rutgers lost to Fairleigh Dickinson, the last time was back in 1993. The Scarlet Knights played awful in this game, shooting 38.6 % from the field and 35% from three-point range. Senior F J.J. Moore had a career-high 26 points for the Scarlet Knights, who had played five games in nine days after the loss. Rutgers did play without their leading scorer and rebounder, junior F Kadeem Jack, who sat out with a sore lower right leg. Jack is averaging 15.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the Scarlet Knights and should be back for Wednesday night’s game. Rutgers has only played one true road game, which they lost by 3 points to UAB. The Scarlet Knights will try to bounce back on the road against a George Washington squad that is coming off a huge win.

The George Washington Colonials improved to 6-1 on the year after beating Creighton 60-53 in the Wooden Legacy consolation game last Sunday night. The Colonials shot 39.3% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range. Senior F Isaiah Armwood, who average 13.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, did a great job guarding Creighton’s leading scorer, Doug McDermott. Armwood held McDermott to only 7 points in the win for George Washington. Sophomore F Kevin Larsen led four Colonials in double figures with 14 points. Sophomore G Joe McDonald and Armwood scored 12 apiece, while sophomore G Kethan Savage finished with 10. The Colonials defense held Creighton to their lowest point total of the year and 28% from behind the arc. On the year, George Washington has been inconsistent defensively, holding one opponent to 63 points and then turning around and giving up 80 the next night. This will be the Colonials fifth home game of the season; George Washington is undefeated at home thus far.
These two teams played last year and Rutgers came away with a 3 point win at George Washington. The Scarlett Knights are coming off a terrible performance last week but they were without their star player. Meanwhile, the Colonials are coming off a big win and will look to keep their momentum moving forward. I believe George Washington is the better team, but I don’t think they win by double digits. I’m taking Rutgers and the points.
