The Mississippi State Bulldogs welcome the TCU Horned Frogs to Humphrey Coliseum Thursday night.
The 5-1 Bulldogs pulled out a narrow 65-64 victory over Loyola (ILL) Sunday behind a combined 44 points from sophomore G Craig Sword and junior F Roquez Johnson. Sword scored a game-high 24 points on 8 of 12 shooting and connected 8 of 10 from the foul line, while Johnson recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds on 60 percent from the field. Mississippi State shot 22 of 47 from the floor and just 4 of 16 from downtown and Loyola shot 42 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc. Bulldogs’ sophomore F Fred Thomas blocked a Loyola three-point shot as time ran out in regulation to send the game to overtime, where MSU surged ahead with 1:36 left to seal the victory. Through six games, the Bulldogs are averaging 72.3 ppg on 46 percent shooting and Sword leads the team with 12.7 ppg on 49 percent from the floor.

TCU, meanwhile, comes into the game with a record of 4-3 and off a tough 71-50 loss to Harvard Sunday in the championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout. The Frogs shot a dismal 25 percent from the floor and 20 percent from beyond the arc in the game, while the Crimson shot 49 percent from the field and 47 percent from distance. The rout took shape early with Harvard jumping out to a 33-10 lead at one point in the first half and took a 48-25 advantage into the break. TCU would get no closer than 13 points in the second half. Junior G Kyan Anderson scored a game-high 20 points on 6 of 12 from the field and hit 7 of 8 from the foul line, while senior G Jarvis Ray added 13 points and 5 rebounds and connected on 5 of 7 from the line. On the season, the Horned Frogs average 67.1 ppg on 42 percent shooting.
MSU is currently a 7.5 point favorite in this one and it looks like it could be a closely contested matchup. The Bulldogs have had a pretty light non-conference schedule to this point, though, while TCU has had tougher opponents, including SMU and Harvard. The points look like a good play here.
