The Rhode Island Rams welcome the Providence Friars to the Ryan Center Thursday.
Providence has a nice looking record to kick off 2013-14 with a few solid wins and some that were just okay although a win is a win as they say. I guess a loss is a loss as well? The Friars only two defeats came at the handsa of Maryland and Kentucky last time out by a 79-65 count in what was thought to be a more competitive contest. It was until the second half when the Wildcats 64% shooting took over and the Friars 31% caught up to them. The struggles from the field made their 19 extra looks immaterial. Bryce Cotton led all scorers with 23 points on 7-21 with five assists while Tyler Harris and Josh Fortune added ten points apiece.

Rhode Island has been a little bit all over as I would say but I attribute some of their performances to new faces that haven't had enough time together to gel. The Rans appeared to be heading in the right direction with three consecutive victories before a 61-54 loss at George Mason interrupted the good times. There was very little differnce between the two according to the numbers with the Patriots leading 42%-40% in the shooting department which was almost a wash. Mason's 17-12 edge at the stripe wasn't and was the decisive stat in a game that could have gone either way. Xavier Munford led a balanced attack with 13 points but was just 5-18 from the floor and had five turnovers while Gilvydas Biruta added ten points with four others contributing 5-6 points.
If you look up consistency don't look for Rhode Island's picture in the dictionary because you don't know what you will be getting which can be good or bad. I'll take the points and hope for good...
