The Wisconsin Badgers and the Marquette Golden Eagles face off on Saturday in their annual college basketball matchup.
The Wisconsin Badgers are off to a 9-0 start and are ranked number eight in the nation. The Badgers haven’t taken the easy way out playing the 19th ranked schedule thus far and one that is projected to get even more difficult. Frank Kaminsky is leading Wisconsin in scoring averaging 15 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Sam Dekker is averaging 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds, Ben Brust is averaging 11.2 points and 6.0 rebounds, Traevon Jackson is averaging 11.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, and Josh Gasser is averaging 32.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Wisconsin is averaging 73.6 points and they are shooting 45.9 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 63.1 points and their opponents are shooting 42.8 percent. Wisconsin opens their Big Ten schedule on January 2nd.

The Marquette Golden Eagles are battle tested but they enter this game at 5-3. Marquette played a Big Ten team earlier this season and they were blasted by Ohio State. Davante Gardener is averaging 14 points and 7.0 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles. Jamil Wilson is averaging 10.5 points and 5.2 rebounds, Todd Mayo is averaging 10 points, and Chris Otule is averaging 7.4 points and 4.9 rebounds. Marquette is averaging 71 points and they are shooting 42.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 63 points and their opponents shoot 38.6 percent. Marquette will need to step it up in this game as they have failed to do so against the better teams thus far.
Wisconsin is 4-1 against the spread following a win, 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, and 4-11 against the spread in their last 15 home games against a team with a losing road record. Marquette is 15-5-1 against the spread following a loss, 1-4-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, and 3-7-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The underdog is 6-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings of these two.
I see this one being defensive and played deliberately but I like the Badgers to cover this number.
