The Xavier Musketeers look to halt their three game slide when they host Bowling Green Saturday.

Xavier comes in with a record of 5-3 and reeling after dropping three straight and a tight one to USC in the seventh-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament last Saturday. The Musketeers shot 46 percent from the field, 35 percent from distance and conceded a 31-11 run to the Trojans that was ultimately too much to overcome. Sophomore G Semaj Christon had a team-high 21 points and 7 assists on 7 of 13 shooting, while sophomore G Myles Davis added 16 points on 50 percent from the field and buried 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. Xavier mounted a late rally down 72-49 at the 4:03 mark behind a 13-0 run that trimmed the lead to 10, but the clock ran out on the Musketeers after trading baskets with USC to close the game. Through eight games, Xavier is averaging 75 points per outing on 48 percent shooting and Christon leads the team in scoring with 15.1 ppg on 49 percent from the floor and 50 percent from distance.

Meanwhile, Bowling Green comes in with a record of 3-4 and off a 74-62 win over Western Kentucky Monday behind four Falcons players scoring in double figures. Sophomore F Spencer Parker had a team-high 20 points on 5 of 7 from the field and hit 9 of 12 from the line and junior F Richuan Holmes had 18 points and 7 boards, and connected on 9 of 10 from the line. Bowling Green went into the break ahead 36-34 then went on a 15-0 run to start the second, putting enough distance between them and the Hilltoppers to seal the victory. The Falcons also got 13 points from senior F Craig Sealey and 12 from junior G Anthony Henderson. On the season, Bowling Green is averaging 67.3 ppg on 44 percent shooting and Parker leads the team with 14.4 ppg on 53 percent from the field.

Xavier opened up a 15.5 point favorite in this one and that’s a big number for a Musketeer team floundering the way they are. They’ll take it straight up, but the points and Bowlinjg Green look like the safer play here.
