The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Davidson Wildcats face off on Wednesday in college basketball action.
The Niagara Purple Eagles are of to a rough start to the season but they are coming off of a win that ended their seven game losing streak. Niagara has played the 269th ranked schedule in the nation and it should get slightly tougher when they begin MAAC play. Antoine Mason leads Niagara averaging 29.3 points per game. Ramone Snowden is averaging 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds, Marvin Jordan is averaging 9.0 points, and Marcus Ware is averaging 8.3 points and 5.6 rebounds. Niagara is averaging 78.4 points and they are shooting 41.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 86.5 points and their opponents are shooting 50.2 percent. Niagara looks like they are in for a long year.

The Davidson Wildcats have played a rough schedule with mixed results but they have won their last three games in a row. Davidson doesn’t have a loss to a team wit a RPI worse than 150 and they have played the 26th ranked schedule in the nation. With De’Mon Brroks sidelined Brian Sullivan leads Davidson averaging 13.6 points per game. Tom Droney is averaging 12.7 points, Tyler Kalinoski is averaging 10.9 points and 5.4 rebounds, and Chris Czerapowicz is averaging 8.8 points. Davidson is averaging 77.3 points and they are shooting 44.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 81 points and their opponents are shooting 51.4 percent. Only Elon is over .500 in the SoCon so Davidson still figures to be a factor.
Niagara is averaging 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, and 0-3-1 against the spread following a win. Davidson is 5-2 against the spread following a win, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, and 7-3 against the spread against a team with a losing record.
Davidson is a mild favorite because this is a big game for Niagara and they are treating it like one. Brooks is Davidson’s best player and he is still out but they have been winning without him and I look for them to get the cover here.
