The 3-6 Florida Atlantic Owls visit the windy city for a non-conference battle with the 4-4 DePaul Blue Demons Thursday at 9PM on FoxSports1.
Florida Atlantic is still searching for their first road win of the season but find themselves on a two game win streak after a 83-63 victory over Jacksonville last weekend. The Owls built a comfortable 16 point lead in this contest and never looked back. FAU was led by guard Pablo Bertone’s 20 points and 6 rebounds. Bertone struggled from the field, going 5-17 and just 2-9 from deep but still found a way to reach 20 points, 2 shy of his season average of 18ppg. Kelvin Penn added 15 and 8 in the post for the Owls and FAU dominated the glass to the tune of a +13 advantage. After two wins in a row, things will get tougher for the Owls with this trip to Chicago and a 2 day turnaround visit to College Park, MD to face the Maryland Terrapins.

With conference play on the horizon, DePaul hopes to use these final few non-conference contests to pad their record before the competition ramps up. The Blue Demons remain at home for this one after getting throttled by the visiting Arizona State Sun Devils 78-56 this past weekend. Nothing went right for DePaul as the Blue Demons were 19-65 from the field (29%) and 2-17 from deep (11%). The Blue Demons simply failed to stop the Sun Devils from scoring in their half court sets. DePaul won the rebounding, turnover and foul battle, but an ice cold first 10 minutes of the second half sealed their fate in this one. Billy Garrett, Jr. led all scorers with 14 and leading scorer Cleveland Melvin struggled to just 2-12 shooting and 12 points.
Some trends to conisder -- Florida Atlantic is 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 versus the Big East and DePaul is 26-12 against the spread in their last 38 games versus Conference USA.
Despite their dreadful shooting and poor defense at times, DePaul did very well in key categories and their shooting performance will likely prove to be an outlier in future contests. Look for Cleveland Melvin to get back on the board with 15+ points in this one as the Blue Demons make easy work of the Owls at home to get above .500.
