The Colorado Buffaloes and the Elon Phoenix face off on Friday Night in college basketball action.
The Colorado Buffaloes are 9-1 for the season and ranked 21st in the country and are coming off of a big win against Kansas. CU has played the 20th ranked schedule in the nation and their lone loss was a season opening neutral site game against Baylor. Spencer Dinwiddie is averaging 15.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game to lead the Buffs. Josh Scott is averaging 12.4 points and 8.2 rebounds, Askia Booker is averaging 11.8 points, and Xavier Johnson is averaging 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. Colorado is averaging 77 points and they are shooting 45.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.6 point and they are shooting 41.4 percent from the floor. Colorado’s schedule only gets tougher when they begin Pac-12 play.

The Elon Phoenix are off to a 5-4 start to the season which gives them a better record than any other team in the SoCon. Elon are 1-1 on the road and they haven’t defeated a team with a RPI better than 150. Lucas Troutman is averaging 17.1 points and 4.7 rebounds to lead the Phoenix. Tanner Samson is averaging 12.8 points and 4.2 rebounds, Sebastian Koch is averaging 11.6 points, and Ryley Beaumont is averaging 10.9 points and 5.0 rebounds. Elon is averaging 80.7 points per game and they are shooting 50.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.9 points and their opponents are shooting 45.2 percent. Elon faces Georgetown next and have a matchup with Duke on New Year’s Eve.
Colorado are 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games, 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 4-0 against the spread following a win. Elon is 1-4 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, 1-7 against the spread in their last eight road games, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a winning home record.
Colorado are big favorites and while the numbers don’t really show that big of an edge Colorado has played the much tougher schedule and that is the reason the numbers show this one closer than it is so I will lay the points with CU.
