The Providence Friars and the Yale Bulldogs face off on Tuesday in college basketball action.
The Providence Friars are 8-2 for the season and are a perfect 5-2 at home. Ed Cooley’s Providence team looks to be rock solid and loaded with scorers but it will all come down to how they handle their Big East schedule this season. Bryce Cotton leads Providence averaging 18.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Tyler Harris averages 12.7 points and 4.8 rebounds, LaDontae Henton is averaging 12.5 points and 7.7 rebounds, and Kadeem Batts is averaging 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds. Providence is averaging 70.1 points and they are shooting 39.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 62 points and their opponents are shooting 42.1 percent. Providence’s losses came to Kentucky and Maryland at both at neutral sites.

The Yale Bulldogs have won three of their last four games but they haven’t beaten a team with a RPI better than 200 this season. Yale is 5-4 on the season and 2-3 on the road so far. Justin Sears is averaging 16.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Javier Duren is averaging 14.1 points, Armani Cotton is averaging 8.7 points, and Brandon Sherrod is averaging 8.1 points and 4.3 rebounds. Yale is averaging 69.8 points and they are shooting 42.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 70.3 points and their opponents are shooting 46.6 percent. Yale opens Ivy League play in mid-January with back-to-back games against Brown.
Providence is 0-4 against the spread in their last four games, 1-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-8 against the spread after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game. Yale is 5-1-1 against the spread against the Big East, 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight road games against a team with a winning home record.
Providence seems to fall short of expectations and Yale is a solid team against the number making taking double digit points seem to be the best play.
