The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Austin Peay Governors face off on Tuesday in Nashville in college basketball action.
The Vanderbilt Commodores are 5-3 on the season but Kevin Stallings’ team has won three of their last four games. It should be a rebuilding year for Vandy but as always they should still be very competitive especially at home where they are 3-0 so far this season. Eric McClellan is averaging 16.5 points and 4.6 rebounds to lead Vandy. Rod Odom is averaging 13 points and 5.1 rebounds, Kyle Fuller is averaging 9.8 points, and Damian Jones is averaging 9.2 points. Vanderbilt is averaging 73.5 points and they are shooting 47.1 percent from the floor while defensively theya re allowing 71.5 points and they are shooting 42.4 percent. Vandy looks like they will need to improve on defense to compete against the better teams this season.

The Austin Peay Governors are 5-5 for the season and are coming off of a win that ended a two game skid. Austin Peay are just 1-3 on the road so far this season and look to be soft defensively. Travis Beltran leads the Governors in scoring averaging 13.9 points per game. Chris Horton is averaging 13.3 points and 10.1 rebounds, Will Triggs is averaging 11.2 points and 4.6 rebounds, and Zavion Williams is averaging 9.4 points. Austin Peay is averaging 75.7 points per game and they are shooting 46.8 percent from the floor but defensively they are allowing 79.8 points per game and their opponents shoot 45.5 percent. Austin Peay opens Ohio Valley Conference play on January 2nd.
Vanderbilt is 18-7 against the spread in Tuesday games and 23-7-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Austin Peay is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, 7-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and -2 against the spread in their last eight road games against a team with a winning home record.
Austin Peay simply has no answers on the defensive end and against a Kevin Stallings coached team on the road it doesn’t bode well.
