The Michigan Wolverines and the Stanford Cardinal face off on Saturday in Brooklyn in college basketball action.
The Michigan Wolverines have lost two of their last three and three of their last five games and just clearly are not the same team that made it to the finals of the NCAA Tournament last season. Michigan is 0-2 on the road and 2-1 in neutral site games but the schedule isn’t going to get any easier for them. Nik Stauskas is averaging 18.3 points to lead UM. Caris LaVert is averaging 14 points, Glenn Robinson III is averaging 13 points, and Mitch McGary is averaging 9.5 points and 8.2 rebounds. Michigan is averaging 79.3 points and they are shooting 46.7 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 63.1 points and their opponents are shooting 42 percent. Michigan opens Big Ten play on January 2nd against Minnesota.

The Stanford Cardinal are coming off of their biggest win of the season knocking off previously unbeaten and nationally ranked UConn. Stanford is battle tested playing the 69th ranked schedule in the nation but it only gets tougher for them when they begin Pac-12 play. Chasson Randle is averaging 18.6 points to lead the Cardinal. Anthony Brown is averaging 15.2 points and 5.6 rebounds, Dwight Powell is averaging 14.6 points and 8.1 rebounds, and Josh Huestis is averaging 11.9 points and 7.9 rebounds. Stanford is averaging 79 points and they are shooting 48.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 69.7 points and their opponents are shooting 40 percent. Stanford is 2-0 on the road and 1-1 in neutral site games.
Michigan is 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 neutral site games, 5-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 0-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Stanford is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games, and 3-9 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
I haven’t been overly impressed with Michigan this season and laying points wit them against a quality team just doesn’t seem to be the best option.
