The 4-7 Tulsa Golden Hurricane visit the 7-3 TCU Horned Frogs for non-conference hoops action down south Saturday at noon.
The start of the season for the Golden Hurricane has been a rough one as they stumbled to 0-4 out of the gate and then notched a few narrow victories against lesser opponents to get to 4-7. Their most recent non-impressive win came by just a point over non D-1 Grand Canyon. The Golden Hurricane actually trailed for a good portion of this game and needed a Lew Evans free throw to seal the win late. Evans finished with 7 points for the game and Tulsa was led in scoring by Rashad Smith and Shaquille Harrisons 15 points a piece. With the win, Tulsa moved to 3-2 overall at home.

TCU is off to a solid start this year sitting at 7-3 and coming off a dominant 98-75 win over Grambling State. TCU was paced by the explosive offensive output of Kyan Anderson who finished with 27 points and 5 assists. Michael Williams added 14 points and Karviar Sheppard added 12 for an offense that shot the ball 53% from the floor, 52% from deep and 81% at the line -- a blueprint for winning basketball games. Despite average offensive rankings across the board, the Horned Frogs are 4-1 at home and have plenty momentum going into conference play in the coming weeks.
Some trends to consider -- Tulsa is 7-1-1 against the spread in their last 9 Saturday games and TCU is 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference contests.
Tulsa has struggled mightily against power conference teams this season and while I have my reservations about TCU’s early season success and its sustainability, I like the Horned Frogs to win this one comfortably at home. Look for Kyan Anderson to be a serious matchup problem for Tulsa and for the Horned Frogs to wrap this one up with the cover.
