The Santa Clara Broncos and South Florida Bulls clash in the Las Vegas Classic Monday.
South Florida had won three straight close ones and it finally caught up to them when Mississippi State pulled out a tight 71-66 decision on Sunday. The scoreboard might have gotten a bit out of reach for a club that still needs to keep scoring under control. That didn't happen with the Bulldogs shooting 45.5% and holding a 16-12 edge at the line while the Bulls countered with 46% marksmanship but killed themselves with 18 turnovers. Victor Rudd tossed in a game high 17 points and grabbed eleven rebounds with Corey Allen Jr adding 16 points followed by a 14 point, nine board performance from Chris Perry.

This isn't the same Santa Clara squad we have seen the last few years with most of the bigger names gone. The Broncs proved that in a 92-71 loss to UNLV that snapped a three game winning streak as the defense was unable to contain the Rebels scoring. UNLV simply did not miss at 60.7% from the floor while the Broncos connected at 39% which was not enough to keep pace on the scoreboard. That netted eleven more field goals for UNLV and was obviously decisive in an other wise competitive boxscore. Jared Brownridge led all scorers with 22 points on 6-15 from the floor with Brandon Clark netting 14 followed by Jerry Brown and Evan Roguemore with 13 and nine points respectively.
Santa Clara has more scoring potential and South Florida is better defensively with a little more balance so this looks like an even battle. We'll see what Vegas thinks when they release the line which shouldn't be big...
