The Cal Golden Bears and the Furman Paladins face off on Saturday in college basketball action.
The Cal Golden Bears have lost two of their last four games as they play their last game before starting Pac-12 play. Cal is a perfect 7-0 at home this season with their losses coming on the road and in neutral site games. Justin Cobbs leads Cal in scoring averaging 13.8 points and 6.2 assists per game. David Kravish is averaging 12.2 points and 8.4 rebounds, Richard Solomon is averaging 11.4 points and 10.1 rebounds, and Jabari Bird is averaging 11.3 points. California is averaging 73.3 points and they are shooting 44.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.3 points and their opponents are shooting 40.6 percent. Cal has played the 65th ranked schedule so far and it looks to only get tougher as they get into Pac-12 play.

The Furman Paladins are coming off of a win but they are just 5-6 for the season. Furman is 1-4 on the road this season and they haven’t beaten a team with a RPI better than 200. Stephen Croone is averaging 21.2 points and 5.3 rebounds to lead the Paladins. Larry Wideman is averaging 12 points, William Gates Jr. is averaging 10.6 points, and Kendrec Ferrara is averaging 6.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. Furman is averaging 67.6 points and they are shooting 43.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 73.5 points and their opponents are shooting 46 percent. Furman’s schedule gets much easier when they begin SoCon play.
Cal is 1-4 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 0-4 against the spread in their last four games, and 1-4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Furman is 7-19 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 3-13 against the spread in their last 16 games, and 3-13 against the spread following a win.
Cal is favored big here but Furman is just that bad and the cross-country road trip isn’t going to help.
