The Villanova Wildcats travel to Syracuse to play the Orange on Saturday.
Villanova is a perfect 11-0 after beating Rider 88-67 last week. The Wildcats shot 50% from the field and 38.5% from behind the arc in the win. Freshman Josh Hart led Villanova with a career-high 19 points, while JayVaughn Pinkston added 14 points. Pinkston averages a team-high 16.5 points per game, while James Bell is close behind with 15.4 points per game. Bell leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game so far this season. As a team, the Wildcats are averaging 82.5 points per game and are shooting 44.9% from the field. Villanova is good rebounding team, averaging 42 boards per game. The Wildcats have big wins over USC, Kansas, and Iowa so far this season. This will be the Wildcats second true road game; Villanova beat St. Joe’s 98-68 in their only other road game this year.

The Syracuse Orange are also a perfect 11-0 on the year after beating High Point 75-54 last week. The Orange shot an impressive 53.7% from the field and 53.8% from three-point range. Trevor Cooney scored 17 points, C.J. Fair added 15 points, and Syracuse forced 15 turnovers in the second half to pull away from the Panthers. On the year, Fair leads the team with 17.8 points per game, while Cooney averages 14.1 points per contest. Jerami Grant is averaging a team-high 5.7 rebounds, while Ennis averages a team-high 5.4 assists per game. As a team, the Orange do not rank very high in any statistical category but they are above average in most. Syracuse averages 76.5 points per game and is shooting just over 47% from the field. Syracuse is 8-0 at home this season.
This will be the toughest test for both teams so far this season. I think Syracuse is the better team at this point in the year and they will be in the comfort of their own building on Saturday. Villanova is obviously a solid team this year, but I think the Orange will be too much for the Wildcats in this one. I’m taking the Orange to win and cover on Saturday.
