The struggling Penn Quakers go on the road looking to right the ship at the Rider Broncs.
I read that Penn could have a shot in the wide open Ivy League in a preseason writeup but that might not be the writer's opinion now with the team off to a 2-7 start. Both ends of the floor have needed a boost and that trend continued in a 76-62 loss to Marist as the Quakers never recovered from a 23 point first half hole. The Red Foxes 43.5%-39% shooting edge gave them four more buckets with better free throw shooting taking care of the rest. Penn did not have a double digit scorer with Fran Dougherty and Tony Hicks leading the offense with nine points with Dougherty snaring nine rebounds. Julian Harrell and Miles Cartwright combined for 15 points but production was hard to find.

My gut tells me that Rider is a long shot to challenge in the MAAC but it also tells me they will be a dangerous bunch. The Broncs can score the basketball and if they discover a little defense this team will be competitive although they were up against the wall talent wise in 88-67 loss to Villanova that ended a three game winning streak. Nova sank half their looks with the Broncs checking in at 44% but 16 turnovers gave the better shooting team eight more shots and an easy win. Anthony Myles tossed in a contest high 22 points with six yanks followed by Jimmie Taylor and Daniel Stewart with 15 and 13 points with Taylor totaling six rebounds. The problem was the offense needed another big scorer and there were none to be found.
In my view Rider has the numbers that point to a cover but let's not forget their defense isn't rock solid so we are depending on them scoring and at least controlling the Quakers attack...
