The San Francisco Dons visit #24 Gonzaga Monday night in undefeated WCC hoops action from the McCarthey Athletic Center.
San Francisco notched their first WCC win of the season in their first conference game with an 87-81 win over Portland this week. The Dons needed an 18-12 run in OT to seal this one -- the Dons were led by center Mark Tollefsen’s 22 points and 5 boards. Cole Dickerson added 13 and 11 up front and the Dons shot the ball 60% from the floor for the game. Portland was able to keep it interesting as they torched the Dons perimeter defense for 10 3’s that allowed them to force OT before Mark Tollefesen’s two late 3 point plays won the game for the Dons as they move to 8-5 on the year.

Gonzaga sits at #24 with an 11-2 record and also made it 1-0 in the WCC with a 74-60 win over Santa Clara this past week in their conference play opener. The Bulldogs built a 5 point halftime lead before opening the 2nd half with consecutive buckets that helped them get the cushion they needed for the win. Gonzaga was led by point guard David Stockton’s 21 points and 5 assists and Kevin Pangos added 17 as well. Gonzaga was a solid 74% at the free throw line and the Bulldogs forced the Santa Clara backcourt into a slew of turnovers -- the Broncos finished with 15 for the contest. The win allowed the Bulldogs to bounce back after a disappointing loss to K-State last weekend.
Some trends to consider -- San Francisco is 46-17 against the spread in their last 63 WCC contests and Gonzaga is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 Monday night games.
The Bulldogs have the advantage in the backcourt in this one and the Dons are certainly more capable up front. I expect the shooting ability of Gonzaga against a shoddy San Francisco defense to be the difference in this one as David Stockton and Kevin Pangos once again lead the way for the Bulldogs in the win, but the Dons steal the cover given their slow pace of play and another solid outing from Tollefsen up front.
