The Brigham Young Cougars travel to Firestone Fieldhouse to take on the Pepperdine Waves.
This is not the same Brigham Young squad we have come to know the last several years although the offense has been very productive. The area that has changed is defensively where opponents are averaging 80 points. Both trends continued in an 87-76 loss at Loyola Marymount in which the Cougars fell behind early and never recovered. This one was decided from the perimeter where the Lions led 8-3 in bombs with most other areas close. Kyle Collinsworth paced the attack with 18 points with Eric Mika adding 17 with the duo grabbing 15 boards while Matt Carlino tossed in 13 and Tyler Haws eleven.

Pepperdine has looked good as winners in three of four and what we notice is the team does well when the offense is clicking. That was the case in a 75-64 decision over San Diego with a helping hand from the defensive end of the floor. The Waves took an eight point lead in to the second half and held serve the rest of the way behind 47% marksmanship which was the deciding factor versus the 41% shooting Toreros. Malcolm Brooks led the Pepperdine scoring with 20 points including a 4-8 mark on threes with Brendan Lane tossing in 18 on 8-10 from the floor while Jeremy Major netted 13 points and seven yanks followed by Stacy Davis with eleven points, ten rebounds and five helpers.
It's hard to imagine Brigham Young losing this but I believe Pepperdine has a viable offense that could keep them close enough for the cover...
