The Texas Longhorns and the Rice Owls face off on Monday in college basketball action.
The Texas Longhorns are coming off of a loss to Michigan State in their last game but they have had a strong start tot the season playing against a tough schedule. Texas has played the 41st ranked schedule, are 7-1 at home this season, and with both of their losses coming to teams with a RPI better than 50. Jonathan Holmes leads the Horns averaging 12.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Isaiah Taylor is averaging 12.4 points, Demarcus Holland is averaging 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds, Javon Felix is averaging 10.9 points, and Cameron Ridley is averaging 10.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Texas is averaging 79.3 points and they are shooting 43.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.6 points and their opponents are shooting 40.1 percent. Texas is a team to watch in March as they have proven they can beat the best teams.

The Rice Owls look to be in for a tough season starting out 5-6. Rice has played the 265th ranked schedule and they are 1-2 on the road. Austin Ramljak is averaging 13.6 points to lead the Owls in scoring. Sean Obi is averaging 12.1 points and 9.2 rebounds, Max Guercy is averaging 11.5 points, and Seth Gearhart is averaging 7.7 points. Rice is averaging 69.4 points and they are shooting 42.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 69.2 points and their opponents are shooting 41.8 percent. Rice opens Conference USA play on January 9th against FIU.
Texas is 5-1 against the spread following a loss, 5-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record. Rice is 5-0 against the spread in their last five road games, 4-0 against the spread in their last four games, and 9-3 against the spread against the Big 12. The road team has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
This is Rice’s Super Bowl but they are way over matched here and I look for Texas to roll.
