The Iowa State Cyclones and the Northern Illinois Huskies face off on Tuesday in college basketball action.

The Iowa State Cyclones are off to an 11-0 start to the season and they are ranked 14th in the nation. ISU hasn’t taken the easy route playing the 44th ranked schedule including three wins over teams with a RPI better than 50. Melvin Ejim is averaging 18 points and 8.8 rebounds per game to lead the Cyclones. Georges Niang is averaging 16 points, DeAndre Kane is averaging 14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists, and Dustin Hogue is averaging 13.5 points and 10.3 rebounds. Iowa State is averaging 87.2 points and they are shooting 48.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 68 points and their opponents are shooting 39.2 percent. Iowa State is looking like they are going to be a force this season.

Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sport

The Northern Illinois Huskies have won three of their last four games but this season has been a struggle thus far. NIU has played the 105th ranked schedule going 2-2 on the road and 0-1 against teams ranked in the top 25 losing to UMass by 26. Darrell Bowie is averaging is averaging 9.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Dontel Highsmith is averaging 9.6 points, Jordan Threloff is averaging 8.3 points and 5.4 rebounds, and Travon Baker is averaging 7.8 points. Northern Illinois is averaging 66.3 points and they are shooting 40.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.3 points and their opponents are shooting 40.3 percent. NIU begins MAC play on January 8th against Buffalo.

Iowa State is 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 games, 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, and 7-3 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Northern Illinois is 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games, 4-10 against the spread following a win, and 10-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record.

Iowa State is clearly the better team here but this is a huge number making this game a no play for me personally but if you must lay the points and hope the backups keep the heat on.
