The Colorado State Rams and the San Diego State Aztecs open their Mountain West Conference schedule as they face on New Year’s Day.
The Colorado State Rams are off to a 9-4 start to the season but they have come up short in their stiffest tests. CSU has played the 280th ranked schedule and are 9-2 at home but they are 0-2 against teams ranked in the top 25. J.J. Avila leads the Rams averaging 19.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Daniel Bejarano is averaging 13.8 points and 9.6 rebounds, Jon Octeus is averaging 12.7 points, and Joe De Ciman is averaging 8.2 points. Colorado State is averaging 80.1 points and they are shooting 45.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 70.3 points and their opponents are shooting 44.3 percent. CSU has won three of their last four games.

The San Diego State Aztecs are the 20th ranked team in the nation and they have just one loss this year. SDSU is 4-0 away from home and they have played the 174th ranked schedule in the country. Xavier Thames is averaging 15.5 points and is the Aztecs leading scorer. Winston Shepard is averaging 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds, J.J O’Brien is averaging 9.6 points and 5.2 rebounds, and Josh Davis is averaging 9.2 points and 10.7 rebounds. San Diego State is averaging 77.2 points and they are shooting 46.3 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 52.6 points and their opponents shoot 33.9 percent. SDSU’s schedule should get more difficult as they get into MWC play.
Colorado State is 5-15-1 against the spread in their last 21 games, 6-2-1 against the spread against the spread in their last nine home games against a team with a winning road record, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games. San Diego State is 1-5 against the spread in their last six Mountain West games, 1-3-1 against the spread following a win by 20 or more points, and 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games following three or more home games. The home team is 5-1-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings of these two.
This is one of the more interesting games of the day which is code for a game you don’t want to be wagering on and while the trends suggest CSU is the stronger play, San Diego State has been to strong for me to go against with this number.
