The Northwestern Wildcats and the Wisconsin Badgers face off on Thursday in Evanston as they tip off their Big Ten College basketball schedules.
The Northwestern Wildcats are coming off of a one-point loss to DePaul and it has been a rough start to the season. Northwestern has played the 164th ranked schedule and they don’t have a win over a team with a RPI better than 150. Drew Crawford is averaging 16.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to lead the Cats. JerShon Cobb is averaging 12.6 points and 4.3 rebounds, Alex Olah is averaging 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Dave Sobelewski is averaging 7.8 points. Northwestern is averaging 66.7 points and they are shooting 41.5 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 63.3 points and their opponents are shooting 40.5 percent. Northwestern’s schedule will be one of the toughest in the nation by the time it is all said and done.

The Wisconsin Badgers are undefeated and ranked fourth in the nation as they head into Big 10 play. Wisconsin is 2-0 on the road and 5-0 away from home overall including neutral site games. Sam Dekker is averaging 14.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game to lead the Badgers. Frank Kaminsky is averaging 14.2 points and 5.8 rebounds, Ben Brust is averaging 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds, and Traevon Jackson is averaging 10.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Wisconsin is averaging 75.1 points and they are shooting 46.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 60.6 points and their opponents are shooting 42 percent. Wisconsin is hoping this is the year they carry their strong play into the NCAA Tournament and go to the Final Four.
Northwestern is 2-5 against the spread against the Big Ten, 1-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games. Wisconsin is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games, 5-2 against the spread following a win by 20 or more points, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games following three or more home games.
