SIU Arena will be jumping when the Southern Illinois Salukis host the #7 Wichita State Shockers.
Wichita State is once again one of the top teams in the country although they tend to be over looked by the bigger names in my view. Few teams score and defend as well as the Shockers and both trends continued in an 81-70 decision over Davidson with both teams connecting in the 43% range. The Wildcats stayed competitive thanks to eleven bombs while the Shockers won with a 28-11 advantage at the line. Cleanthony Early pumped in 24 points and snagged ten boards with Ron Baker sinking 15 while Darius Carter and Tekele Cotton netted 13 and ten points with a combined ten pulls.

Southern Illinois averages 70 points and allows 70 points but neither have been on the same page very often as their record explains. SIU had a golden opportunity to forge some momentum with a three game winning streak but that came to an end in a 67-65 loss at Miami (Ohio). The Salukis 45% marksmanship was competitive with the Redhawks 49% because of 13 more looks at the basket but Miami sank four more from long range and held a 12-6 edge at the charity stripe. Desmar Jackson carried the offense with 27 points and nine rebounds with Jalen Pendleton tossing in 13 points and snaring five pulls followed by a 12 point effort from Anthony Beane Jr.
Wichita State and their record speaks volumes of what this team is capable of but ironically Southern Illinois has played them as tough as any one which makes a DD spread on the road a scary proposition...
