Stanford Cardinal vs. California Golden Bears Pick, Odds, Prediction 1/2/14

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

The Cal Golden Bears have won three of their last four games and they are 9-4 as they begin Pac-12 play. Cal is 0-2 on the road this season and they have played the 78th ranked schedule in the country. Justin Cobbs leads the Bears averaging 14.2 points and 6.0 assists per game. David Kravish is averaging 11.9 points and 8.2 rebounds, Richard Solomon is averaging 11.3 points and 10.3 rebounds, and Jabari Bird is averaging 11.3 points. Cal is averaging 74.6 points and they are shooting 45.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.8 points and their opponents are shooting 40.7 points per game. All of Cal’s losses have come to teams with a RPI better than 100 and 3 of the 4 are to teams with a RPI better than 50.

Stanford is 4-0 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record, 3-9-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-0-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. Cal is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall, 0-4 against the spread following a win, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games. The home team is 6-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings of these two.

Stanford is the better team but I like this game closer to five points so at seven I will take the point with the Golden Bears.
