The Indiana Hoosiers and the Michigan State Spartans face off on Saturday in Bloomington in Big Ten college basketball action.

The Indiana Hoosiers opened their Big 10 schedule on Tuesday with a loss at Illinois that continues their struggles on the road this season. IU is 9-0 at home this season but they are 0-2 against ranked teams which doesn’t bode well for the tough schedule they have ahead. Kevin Yogi Ferrell is the Hoosiers leading scorer averaging 17.7 points and 4.1 assists per game. Noah Vonleh is averaging 12.3 points and 9.5 rebounds, Will Sheehy is averaging 10.7 points and 4.1 rebounds, and Jeremy Hollowell is averaging 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. As a team Indiana is averaging 82 points and they are shooting 46.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 67.9 points and their opponents are shooting 38.4 percent. Indiana will find out a lot about themselves and we will find out a lot about them as well in this contest.

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Michigan State Spartans Pick, Odds, Prediction 1/4/14

Ben Woloszyn-USA TODAY Sports

The Michigan State Spartans have just one loss so far this season and are 12-1 and ranked fifth in the nation heading into this game. MSU is coming off of a 16-point win at Penn State to open their Big Ten schedule and they are 6-0 in games away from home this year. Adreian Payne is averaging 17 points and 8.1 rebounds to lead the Spartans. Keith Appling is averaging 15.8 points and 4.8 assists, Gary Harris is averaging 17.4 points, and Branden Dawson is averaging 11.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Michigan State is averaging 83.3 points and they are shooting 48.7 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 65.2 points and their opponents are shooting 37.6 percent. Michigan State still does it the same way they always have under Tom Izzo and that is with strong rebounding.

Indiana is 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games, 0-3-1 against the spread in their last four games, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a winning road record. Michigan State is 4-0 against the spread following a win, 3-1-1 against the spread following a game they covered the point spread, and 3-1-2 against the spread in their last in their last six games against a team with a winning record. The home team has covered the point spread in 16 of the last 21 meetings of these two.
