The DePaul Blue Demons and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet in the midwest from the Bradley Center Saturday at 2PM on CBS Sports Network.
DePaul lost their conference opener to Georgetown on the road this past week to fall to 8-6 overall on the year. The Blue Demons solid road play in conference from last season appears to have carried over as they once again competed strongly for about 35 minutes before the Hoyas pulled away. The Blue Demons were led by Brandon Young’s 13 points and 5 rebounds. In addition to Young’s play, Billy Garrett Jr, continued to score the ball well as he finished with 17 points and 3 assists. DePaul shot it just 26% from the floor and committed 23 fouls -- a losing recipe for conference road play.

Marquette opened up conference play with a lopsided loss to the Creighton Bluejays 67-49. Creighton was dominant on offense and Marquette’s struggles to find consistent scorers once again reared its head as Jamil Wilson and big man Otule both had 10 points -- the only players to reach double figures. Deonte Burton continues to play well off the bench with 9 points and 4 rebounds but it is clear that the loss of veteran scorers Darus Johnson-Odom and Vander Blue is really taking a toll on this young squad as the competition increases. The loss moved the Golden Eagles to 8-6 overall.
Marquette plays a completely different brand of ball at home and the Bradley Center has become one of the toughest venues in the country to play in. Look for Marquette to get out early in this one and try to set the tone up front with Chris Otule and DeVante Gardner. I like the Golden Eagles to control this one from the tip and pull away late for the much needed 10 point win.
