The Providence Friars look to get back on the winning track with a tough road visit to face the 11th ranked Villanova Wildcats Sunday at 7PM on Fox Sports One.
Providence is 10-4 on the year and fell to 0-1 in conference play this past week when the Seton Hall Pirates used two late free throws in double OT to steal the win. Tyler Harris and Bryce Cotton once again led the way for Providence with Cotton scoring 25 and Harris adding 22 and 9 boards. The Friars tried to capitalize down low with the absence of Seton Hall big man Gene Teague and while the Friars were able to snag a +13 advantage on the glass, they failed to get things going offensively most of the game. The loss marks back to back heartbreakers in OT for Providence.

Villanova bounced back from a loss at Syracuse last weekend to edge Butler in a tough road battle to open conference play. Jayvaughn Pinkston bounced back from a few pedestrian showings of late to score 22 points, including big baskets in OT that iced the game for the Wildcats. Darrun Hillard added 15 and helped make up for the struggles of swing man James Bell, who shot it just 3-10 from the field and struggled to get anything going all night but helped out a lot on the boards with 8. After this home contest, the Wildcats will hit the road to visit St. John’s and Seton Hall.
Some trends to consider -- Providence is 2-5 against the spread in their last 7 road games and Villanova is 7-2 against the spread in their last 9 at home.
A solid start to the season for Providence has the chance of being a thing of the past if they fall to 0-2 in a tough big east conference. The Friars have the guards to hang with Villanova but the Nova guards are much too big and physical and should be able to take control as the game wears on. I like Bryce Cotton to have a big game to keep Providence in this one as they come up short in the win column but grab the cover on the road.
