Worthen Arena and the Ball State Cardinals begin MAC play with the Akron Zips on Wednesday.
Akron has been a fixture at the top of the MAC standings and were thought to be once more but three straight defeats followed by lackluster wins have taking a wait and see approach. The Zips improved to 8-5 with a tense 59-58 win over Marshall as the offense was held to 35.6% from the field and 14-26 at the line while turning the ball over 14 times. Fortunately the defense forced 18 turnovers that combined with 17 offensive rebounds to total eleven more shots. Isaiah Johnson was the only DD scorer with 12 points and seven pulls with Pat Forsythe and Nick Harney combining for 17 points.

Ball State had gotten off to a decent start to the season but things have gone south with seven consecutive defeats with problems emerging at both ends of the floor. The Cardinals did stop the bleeding with a 94-67 rout of Oakland City that served as a tune up for conference action. The Cardinals 43.5% shooting was golden with 17 more looks at the basket combining with ice cold 32% accuracy from the Mighty Ducks. Majok Majok exploded for 25 points and 18 rebounds with Chris Bond and Mark Alstork netting 16 and 13 points with eleven boards between them while Zavier Turner and Jesse Berry netted a combined 22 points in a bench clearing affair.
If Akron doesn't start to play well soon I'd be very disappointed but the fact of the matter is laying points on the road might be dumb with these guys right now...
