The Wake Forest Demon Deacons travel to Virginia to play the Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
Wake Forest improved to 11-3 on the year after beating North Carolina at home 73-67 on Sunday. The Demon Deacons shot 48.1% from the field and only 16.7% from three-point range. Wake Forest reached the free throw line 33 times and only hit 57.6% of their shots. Travis McKie scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half, while Codi Miller-McIntyre added 12 points for the Demon Deacons. On the year, Miller-McIntyre averages a team-high 16.6 points and 4 assists per game this season. Devin Thomas averages 11.4 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds per game this season. The Demon Deacons are averaging 75.4 points per game while shooting 45.2% from the field this season. Wake Forest is a great rebounding team, pulling down 42.2 boards per game this season. The Demon Deacons have won five of their last six games and will head out on the road for only the second time this season.
USA TODAY Sports
The Virginia Cavaliers improved to 10-4 on the year after beating Florida State 62-50 on Saturday. The Cavaliers shot only 32.8% from the field, 37.5% from three-point range, and 54.5% from the charity stripe. However, Virginia played some solid defense and contributed to a terrible shooting night for the Seminoles. Justin Anderson scored 16 points and Akil Mitchell added 11 points along with 13 rebounds for Virginia. On the year, Harris leads the Cavaliers with 10.3 points per game. Anderson is averaging 9.8 points per game, while Mitchell averages team-high 6 rebounds per contest. Virginia is only averaging 64.6 points per game while shooting a mediocre 43.7% from the field. The Cavaliers will head home where they have dropped two games to the likes of VCU and Wisconsin this season.
Wake Forest has won seven out of the last eight meetings with Virginia, including a 3 -point win at Virginia last season. The Demon Deacons are coming off a huge win at home over UNC and this could be a prime letdown spot for Wake Forest. Virginia bounced back at Florida State after getting hammered by Tennessee the week prior. Virginia plays well at home and I think their stingy defense will frustrate Wake Forest in this game. However, the Demon Deacons are a young, improving team, and even though Virginia may win this game I think Wake Forest will keep this game within 10 points.
