The Saint Mary's Gaels tangle with West Coast rival the Santa Clara Broncos on Thursday.
Santa Clara possesses a decent scoring team backed by an okay defense and the result has been the Broncos are just staying afloat. The Broncos look to start a winning streak in the conference after upending Pepperdine 86-81 in overtime despite getting outshot 49%-41% with a 10-0 edge in threes and a 24-13 advantage at the line saving the day. Jared Brownridge paced the offense with 29 points and five yanks with Brandon Clarke right on his heels with 26 points followed by Evan Roguemore with ten.

It's been an unusual past few weeks for Saint Mary's who lost three in a row in the Diamond Head Classic before falling to Gonzaga and losing four of seven isn't what we're accustomed to seeing from this team. The Gaels have still scored and defended well although they hardly needed much of anything in crushing William Jessup 84-46 with 55% shooting with eleven threes doing plenty of damage. That was more then enough with the Warriors held to only 27% from the floor and losing the battle on the backboards 39-18. Kerry Carter pumped in 19 points with Treaven Duffy next in line with 13 while Brad Waldow and Eividas Petrulis netting eleven points apiece.
If Saint Mary's plays as they have the last few years this could end up as a rout. I'll take the points and simply hope it's just a win because Santa Clara is not completely helpless...
