The beleaguered Texas El Paso Miners host the Charlotte 49ers in a CUSA tilt Thursday night.
Charlotte has been a score first squad and when they get the job done offensively their chances of winning go up. The defense has enjoyed some quality performances over the past ten times out but it was all scoring in an 88-72 victory over North Carolina A&T. The 49ers 53% marksmanship carried the day with the Aggies connecting at 38%. Pierria Henry was the offensive star with 23 points, seven boards and seven helpers with Willie Clayton and Shawn Lester tossing in 13 points each with Clayton snaring eight boards while Mike Thorne Jr. netted 12 points and grabbed another eight rebounds.

For anyone that doesn't know, Texas El Paso suspended a few players for point shaving which I'm still trying to figure out with the Miners going 7-2 ATS and the suspected players doing well. The bottom line is what can we expect from this team going forward as common logic says the scoring should fall off which puts added pressure on the defensive end of the floor. Leading scorer McKenzie Moore (13 ppg) and two others were dismissed so I suspect a dedicated effort defensively with an obvious loss in scoring potential. My take is this either makes this team closer or destroys them and I'm not sure the remainder of the team doesn't play with a chip on their shoulders.
My initial thought was take the 49ers with all the problems surrounding the Miners but I think I will back them but no money involved until I can see the direction this team goes...
