The Boston College Eagles travel to Virginia Tech to play the Hokies on Saturday.
Boston College dropped to 4-11 on the year after losing at home against Clemson 62-60 last weekend. The Eagles shot only 36.6% from the field and 46.7% from long distance. Boston College reached the charity strip 32 times and shot 71.9%. Oliver Hanlan led Boston College with 27 points, while Ryan Anderson had 13 points in the loss. On the year, Hanlan averages a team-high 19.9 points and 3 assists per game for the Eagles. Anderson averages 16 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game. The Eagles averages only 71.3 points per game while shooting 44.5% from the field. Boston College is one of the worst rebounding teams in the country and they also do not distribute the ball well. Boston College has lost four straight contests and they have lost all five of their road games this season.

Virginia Tech Hokies dropped to 8-6 on the year after losing at home against Syracuse 72-52 on Tuesday night. The Hokies shot only 36.7% from the field and 29.2% from behind the arc against the Syracuse zone defense. Virginia Tech reached the charity strip 17 times and only made 52.9% of their attempts. The Hokies leading scorer Jarell Eddie managed only 6 points, but added a team-high 3 assists. Adam Smith and Ben Emelogu both had 9 points in the loss. On the year, Eddie leads the team with 16.6 points and 6 rebounds per game. Smith is averaging 12.7 points per game and 2.5 assists. The Hokies are shooting 43.8% from the field and 72.4 points per game as a team this season. Virginia Tech is a good rebounding team, averaging 40.2 boards per game. The Hokies have lost three of four games after winning four straight in late November, early December.
Boston College has won five out of the last six meetings with Virginia Tech. However, this is not the same Eagles squad compared to the last few years. Boston College is struggling on both ends of the floor, especially on defense where they can’t seem to stop anyone. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech has been struggling against good competition and I think they will get back on track in this one. I think the Hokies will win this game by double-digits.
