The Quinnipiac Bobcats pay a Sunday visit to St. Peter’s for a showdown with the Peacocks at 2PM from the Yanitelli Center.
Quinnipiac is off to a good start this season -- the Bobcats are 9-5 currently but are 4-1 and tied for first in conference play. The Bobcats are also winners of three in a row with their most recent victory coming this past week over over conference co-leader Manhattan 81-76. The Bobcats took the lead to the break and held on in the second half behind a big shooting night from Zaid Hearst. Hearst knocked down 20 points and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Down low, the Bobcats were fueled by the play of Ousmane Drame who ripped down 14 boards to go along with his 9 points. The Bobcats had 49 boards for the game and were able to get the win despite shooting just 39.3% from the field (22-56).
St. Peter’s has found themselves on the losing end of most of their games this season. The Peacocks sit at 5-9 on the year and broke a two game losing streak this past weekend with a victory over Fairfield 56-55. The two teams traded baskets all game long before St. Peter’s guard Desi Washington hit a three pointer at the buzzer to steal the road win. Washington only had 7 points, but none bigger than the buzzer beating 3. Jamel Fields added 13 off the bench to lead all Peacocks scorers and Trevis Wyche added 12, 5, and 5 from the point guard spot. Perhaps the buzzer beater is what St. Peter’s needs to get a little consistency going.
Quinnipiac is fresh off a strong road win at conference foe Manhattan and getting a win on the Jaspers home floor is a much tougher task than knocking off St. Peter’s. I think the Bobcats should gain control of this one pretty early on and won’t look back on their way to the road win and cover. Look for another dominant post performance from Ousmane Drame.
