The Butler Bulldogs travel to Centrurylink Center Omaha to face the 20th ranked Creighton Bluejays Tuesday night at 9PM on Fox Sports 1.
The Bulldogs were many analysts top pick to contend for the league title in the newly formed Big East this year but almost everything has gone wrong for the Bulldogs, who are now 0-4 in the conference and are losers of three straight OT losses, two of which came at home. In their most recent heartbreaking defeat, the Bulldogs fell in OT to the visiting Georgetown Hoyas 70-67. Kellen Dunham and Khyle Marshall once again led the way for Butler. The duo tallied 35 combined points and were aided by 14 off the bench from Chrabascrz. Butler got no other contribution from the bench whatsoever and the usually solid three point shooting threats finished the game a lowly 2-21 while Georgetown knocked down key three’s late to force OT and steal the win.

The Creighton Bluejays made it 11 in a row and moved to 14-2 and tied with Villanova for tops in the conference after holding off a solid Xavier team 95-89 on Sunday. The Bluejays had a stellar showing from all-american swingman Doug McDermott who poured in 35 points and consistently helped the Bluejays stay 3-5 points ahead while Xavier constantly kept things close. The Bluejays knocked down 14 of their 28 three pointers and Xavier kept pace with 12. Creighton once again racked up nearly 20 team assists and in doing so now rank #1 in the nation in team assists.
Butler has lost a step this season and it is easy to understand that if Roosevelt Jones was not lost to injury early in the year, the Bulldogs may very well be 4-0 in conference play. Unfortunately Jones is not available and the Bulldogs have some deficiencies they have not been able to overcome. I expect Creighton to blow this one open in the second half behind McDermott and get the cover at home to keep their undefeated conference season alive.
