The Michigan Wolverines and the Penn State Nittany Lions face off on Tuesday in Big Ten college basketball action.

The Michigan Wolverines have won their last five games including their first three Big Ten Conference games and appear to be playing their best basketball of the season. Michigan is 6-1 at home thus far with three of their four losses coming against teams ranked in the top 25. Nik Stauskas leads the Wolverines averaging 17.4 points. Glenn Robinson III is averaging 13.8 points, Caris LaVert is averaging 11.9 points, and Derrick Walton Jr. is averaging 8.0 points. As a team Michigan is averaging 77.1 points and they are shooting 48.1 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.9 points and their opponents are shooting 42.4 percent. Michigan has three ranked teams in their next three games with Wisconsin, Iowa, and Michigan State.

Michigan Wolverines vs. Penn State Nittany Lions Pick, Odds, Prediction 1/14/14

Dave Weaver-USA TODAY Sports

The Penn State Nittany Lions are struggling in Big Ten play losing their first four conference games. PSU is 1-2 on the road this season going 0-4 overall against teams with a RPI better than 50. D.J. Newbill is averaging 17.3 points and 5.1 rebounds to lead the Nittany Lions. Tim Frazier is averaging 16.6 points and 6.5 assists, Ross Travis is averaging 11.2 points and 8.3 rebounds, and Brandon Taylor is averaging 10.4 points and 5.2 rebounds. Penn State is averaging 77.4 points and they are shooting 45.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 73.7 points and their opponents are shooting 41 percent. Penn State has lost their last two games by three points each.

Michigan is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 3-7 against the spread following a win, and 4-11 against the spread against the Big Ten. Penn State is 0-4 against the spread following a loss, 0-6 against the spread in their last six games, and 0-5 against the spread against the Big Ten. The home team is 12-5-1 against the point spread in the last 18 meetings of these two.

This is a big number but Michigan is playing that well right now and I look for them to get it done.
